A three-day seminar on Trade and Investment Opportunities in Nepal” is concluded today in Seoul with a positive note. At the final day of the seminar, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the counterparts of Nepali and Korean business companies for future business undertakings. On behalf of Baidhya’s Organization of Industries and Trading Houses, President Mr. Suraj Baidha signed a MoU with Saponia Korea Ltd. for organic farming in Nepal. Shakha Group, Vice-President Mr. Kiran Shakha signed a MoU with Woosung Elevator Co. Ltd of Korea. Similarly, Gangrhi Brandy Industries Pvt. Ltd and DJ Nepal Pvt. Ltd with Rold Bank Co. Ltd, Chandra Enterprises Pvt. Ltd and Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industries with Saponia Korea Ltd. signed MoUs. During the programme, Seoul Partners House and Embassy of Nepal also signed a MoU for mutual cooperation in promoting trade and investment both in Nepal and Korea. The Seminar with the main theme of “Sustainable Green Empowerment of Nepal” was commenced from 4 to 6 November 2012 in Seoul. A fifty-member business delegation comprising members from FNCCI, Hydropower Association of Nepal, Herbs and Herbal Product Association of Nepal, TAAN participated in the Seminar. Ambassadors and other members of diplomatic corps, reputable business houses as well as investors of Korea including the Chairman of Korea National Chamber of Commerce and Industries and members of Nepalese community were present at the opening ceremony. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a reception. Addressing the ceremony, the Vice-Chairman Hon. Deependra Bahadur Kshetry presented the prospects of Nepal for business venture and requested the potential Korean investors to share their development experience through investment in Nepal. While highlighting the Government’s policy for foreign investment, he said, “the Government of Nepal will extend all possible cooperation to the investors in order to create an investment friendly environment.” In his keynote speech, the Ambassador of Nepal requested to the Korean investors to come forward and reap the benefit of incentives and facilities that has been offered to the foreign investors. Presenting Nepal’s development endeavours, he said that the Government of Nepal is committed to make Nepal a favoured destination for foreign direct investment. Mr. Suraj Vaidya, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Mr. Joon-Seok You, Vice-President of Power Construction Department, Dr. Lee In-Jeong, President of Korean Alpine Federation and Korea-Nepal Friendship Association gave congratulatory remarks and expressed good wishes for the successful completion of the Seminar. During the seminar seven papers were presented by the panel of experts: “Investment Opportunities in Nepal” by Radesh Panta, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Investment Board, “Harnessing Energy from white waters, wind and solar in Nepal” by Mr. Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of Chilime Hydropower Project, "Water Management and Overseas Business in K- Water" by Mr. Park of K-water, “Development Cooperation and Investment Opportunities in Nepal” by Prof. Dr. Mukta Singh Thokar, “The plan of Railway Cooperation between Nepal and Korea” by Mr. Kim Hyoung Geun, General Manager of Korea Rail Network Authority, “Himalayas Spring Water” by Y.L. Ryu, Chief Executive Officer of Himalaya’s Spring Water Pvt. Ltd., and “Empowering Nepal by Tourism Development” by Tenzi Sherpa, General Secretary of Non-Resident Nepalese Association.
