The Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Pandey held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Mr. Yun Byung-se, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Korea today at the latter’s office in Seoul. During the meeting, matters of bilateral interests including the regional and international issues were discussed at a friendly atmosphere. Thanking the Korean Government for its continuous support to Nepal’s development initiatives, the Hon. Foreign Minister sought an increased level of Korean partnerships in Nepal’s socioeconomic development and investment projects.

 

Foreign Minister Mr. Yun Byung-se stated that the Government of Republic of Korea attaches great importance to this visit that has taken place after a long gap and expressed his happiness in welcoming the Hon. Foreign Minister of Nepal. Reassuring the support of the Korean Government to Nepal particularly in the fields of education, health, energy and agriculture, he wished to see Nepal as a peaceful and prosperous nation with the conclusion of peace process.

 

During the meeting, both the Foreign Ministers expressed their happiness to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and the Republic of Korea with organizing several promotional activities and also expressed their commitment to further consolidate and expand all the spheres of bilateral relations.

 

Apprising Nepal’s role in regional cooperation and forthcoming SAARC summit to be held in Kathmandu in November this year, the Hon. Minister appreciated the important role played by the Republic of Korea in the SAARC process as an observer. The two Ministers also discussed matters of common interest including cooperation in various multilateral forums.

 

The Hon. Minister also extended an invitation to the Korean Foreign Minister to visit Nepal at an appropriate time, which he accepted happily and would visit Nepal at a mutually convenient time.
