Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, who is on a five-day official visit of the Republic of Korea, attended the ceremony organized by the Embassy to mark the 7th Republic day as National day of Nepal. The Hon. Minister also inaugurated the concurrently organised event to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Republic of Korea at a reception hosted by the Embassy of Nepal in Seoul today.
In his inaugural address, the Hon. Minister, congratulating the people of Nepal and Korea on this auspicious occasion, expressed gratitude to the Government of Republic of Korea for contributing in Nepal’s development endeavours through partnerships and cooperation. Highlighting the historical bilateral relationship based on goodwill, shared culture, and mutual cooperation, the Hon. Minister urged the Korean entrepreneurs and business community to invest in Nepal in the mutually beneficial sectors.
His Excellency Ahn, Hong-joon, Chairman of the International Committee of Foreign Relations of the National Parliament of the Republic of Korea was also present on the occasion. H.E. Mr. Ahn, who had visited Nepal in January 2014, expressed his happiness to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship and reassured an increased level of cooperation from Korea to Nepal.
His Excellency Mr. Kaman Singh Lama also addressed the ceremony, highlighting various aspects of Nepal-Korea cooperation and relations.
To pay tribute to the martyrs of Nepal’s political movement as well as to express condolences to the bereaved family members of those who lost lives at the Korean ferry disaster, a one minute silence was observed at the programme.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of Korean nationals representing a cross-section of the Society including business, academics, artists, sports, members of diplomatic corps, government officials as well as a considerable number of Nepalese community members.
Earlier today, the Hon. Minister inaugurated a three-day investment seminar organized by the Embassy with the objective of promoting Nepal in Korea. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Hon. Mr. Pandey highlighted the Government’s initiatives in creating investment friendly atmosphere through requisite policy reforms and institutional arrangements. Experts in the respective sectors, academics and senior Government officials presented their papers on their respective subjects during the seminar. The three-day investment seminar will continue until 17th of May with business to business meetings which are expected conclude with the signing of MOUs.
The Hon. Minister is scheduled to depart from Seoul to Kathmandu via Bangkok tomorrow.
